Ok, sorry I'm lagging. "Will" makes sense in terms of the reading. Conductor of spirits.

What is the origin of the word "okidanokh"? I have trouble understanding it.

Exactly, you get into a complete stupor - that just shows that he is indeed right. You get this strange blank feeling when you ask yourself what is this glass, pen, window? We can only answer a question "What is this thing used for". Functions we ca…

Hmm... OK, I want education because I don't have enough, and it's never enough. So I'm suffering all my life, and then it's not "proper livelihood"? And, I see the reason for the post: you finally read the "forward" to "Deaper Man"??

Awesome post. I wonder how physical discipline brings pleasure. Perhaps I don't fully understand what physical discipline and "proper livelihood" mean... Does it mean no blue ice cream?

The comments are even more interesting - so many different people, some are very funny:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article. Thank you. In part because the experience you describe is so much like my own that it took me back. I approached such things similarly when I did a 10-day retreat in India in ‘99 - was quite judgmental, uncomfortable, occasionally bored, and sometimes even downright scared. But then, for me as well, about 5 days into the retreat, I had an experience, which I also won’t describe here, but it resulted in me laughing uncontrollably for 5 days straight. I had pinch marks up and down my arm from my failed attempts to curtail it. I woke up - I was laughing, I meditated - laughing, ate - laughing, and so on. It even got so bad that I went and talked to a couple of the monks to see if they could explain what was happening. Needless to say, they weren’t at all concerned. In any case, concurrently I remember a feeling of sincere love and appreciation for everything and everyone around me - like I’ve never experienced before or since. I was a completely integrated being. I miss that. Thanks for the reminder.

Random thoughts inspired by "Deeper Man"

This nerdy and ignorant comment is inspired by page 13 of Bennett’s “Deeper Man” regarding this notion that in the physical world, or the world of function, “we are dealing with how things behave, not with what they are.” I am trying to convince myself that this is, in fact, true.

Building block of life are elementary particles associated with either matter or force. OK, let's start with matter, how is it defined? Matter is usually defined in terms of mass and volume and something about radiati… Continue
