Hah:) Yevgeniy is the same as Eugene,
from Greek name Ευγενιος (Eugenios) which was derived from the Greek word ευγενης (eugenes) meaning "well born". It is composed of the elements ευ "good, well" and γενης (genes) "born". I guess Yev(like Yes but with v at the end)-Ge(like first two letters in Geisha)-Neey is how it sounds, but i am really not that attached to it. After coming to the US, i have periodically been becoming Eugene, sometimes even migrating back to something that all the Russian speaking people would call me which is "Zhenya" which is hard to pronounce, the first letter is like the first sound in French "Jean" but it is hard, not soft:)
Aren't you glad you asked:)?
